Couch Potato

If we could turn off all the TVs in the world I believe that children would actually be more educated, healthier, and independent. The reasons I think this are because I know when I was a child that if I had the TV on while I was trying to do my homework or study for a test it would not get done. So there’s for the education, students are not going to try has hard to learn their material if their favorite cartoon is on. Most children are not going to want to sit down and play and educational board game or study flash cards if their watching a good show on TV. As for the healthiness, I strongly believe that TV does not do much good. Most kids now a days when they are “playing” with their friends they are really inside playing their favorite video games or just watching TV. Playing video games or watching the tube do not involve any type of physical activity. Now for independence, I do not really know if TV makes you dependent on other people, so I do not extremely agree one that one but the other two I strongly agree on. If all the TVs in the world were to be turned off children most likely would not even know what to do from there because they do not get out and play in the yard. I know that when I was a child I was never very interested in TV so I was always outside playing with my neighbors and it kept me very active and healthy, now that I am interested in TV and facebook I am not as active as I was as a child and definitely probably couldn’t go outside and run around and play tag like I used to. I think that it would be a great idea to have kids stop watching TV and playing video games and to get outside and do something with their life or else they will forever be a…..couch potato.

Power of Advertising

I see advertising as a pretty powerful thing, because whenever I see an ad, depending on how whatever it is that is being advertised looks, decides whether I want it or not. Take food for an example, if food advertisements did not make the food look absolutely at its best then you probably wouldn’t want it as bad. The food never looks the same when you make it as it does in the commercial. Pizza for example, I worked at a pizza place once and strictly for the advertisement they were making, they bought a certain type of cheese that when you pick up a piece of pizza, the cheese stays long and stringy and makes the piece of pizza look 5 times as good as it would without all the effects.
Also, if ads are dull and unlively, you will not be as attracted to them because they will not catch your eye as easily. The more fun and entertaining your ad is the more people are going to pay attention to it. Which is probably why a lot of clothes advertisers use practically naked models to advertise their clothes because it catches the eye.
If advertisers didn’t do funny things or have sex appeal in their ads, they probably wouldn’t get as much business.

SSSOOONNNGGGG!

The song I am going to choose is not really what I would call special to me but it is a song going out to women everywhere about cheating boyfriends, which I believe is a great song and it makes me believe more in woman. The song I am going to talk about is “Think before he cheats” by Carrie Underwood. In her song she talks about all the things she does to her ex boyfriends car once she finds out that he cheated on her with another woman. She “digs her keys into the side of his pretty little souped up four wheel drive, carves her name into his leather seats, takes a Louisville slugger to both headlights, slashes a hole in all four tires”, just so that way he thinks before the next time that he cheats. ;) This song makes me laugh because I think guys under estimate girls when it comes to how they treat them. Carrie Underwood makes sure she shows this guy that he needs to learn how to treat girls and not just play them like a little game and it is a very powerful song. I do not believe in cheating and do not think that any guy should ever mess with a girls head and be unfaithful. Most men do it, but every woman needs to find a man that wont!

Five Elements of Rhetorical Situations
Purpose: The purpose in her song I think is to show men that they should not cheat on their significant other because of what COULD happen.
Audience: All women who have ever had a cheating boyfriend.
Genre: Country
Stance: She has a very angry stance I feel like by the sound of the song.
Media: American Idol.

Confused Freshman

---Coming into Wright State University I had absolutely no idea what was going on. From where my classes were, what building was what, how to get from building to building in the underground hallways that they have and parking arrangements. I came into campus a day before my classes had actually started to find out where they were. It was so confusing, because I had not been on campus more than once in my whole life. I was walking around trying to look like I knew what was going on when I really had no clue at all. It started off bad as soon as I parked. I did not know that the yellow spots were for teachers, definitely parked in one. I walked clear across campus trying to find the building I was supposed to be in which little did I know was right where I started my long journey in the beginning. I walked all over campus to Russ Engineering Center and back to Burt where I found my best friend Amanda who is currently a sophomore at WSU. She showed me the buildings and explained to me that most of the buildings I was going to be in spelled out “FOAM”. She showed me the basement hallways that attach all the buildings and showed me my classes. If I would have never came in a day early and found all my classes, my first day of college would have been a living nightmare. I was the definition of a stupid freshman. :(
